Background[]
On March 8, 2019, Azealia Banks published what would be the official tracklist of the album Business & Pleasure in which "Black Madonna" appeared listed as track number 2. Later, on March 19, she made a couple of stories through her Instagram account by singing a snippet of the track.
Black Madonna was intended to be released in May 2019, but it was not. The day of the release of YUNG RAPUNXEL PT. II, Banks confirmed that "Black Madonna" was her next release, ahead of her sophomore studio album Business & Pleasure planned for October.
On February 5, during a livestream on Instagram, Azealia shared a snippet of the track demo.[1]
Nothing more was known about the track until May 22, 2020 thanks to an Instagram post where Azealia shared a fragment of the song and the release date of the single that would be 29 of the same month.[2]
The song was not released that day, however, on June 8, 2020, Azealia shared the cover of the single on her Facebook and Instagram account, ensuring that the song would drop shortly. The next day, the song is released only on SoundCloud and with a pre-save on Spotify until it officially hits the other platforms.[3][4][5][6]
